Who Am I Trying to Impress?

This past week has been full of new beginnings.

As I continue stepping into my career as a Realtor, there has been so much to learn—from branding and marketing to creating content and building relationships. It's exciting, but if I'm being honest, it's also been stretching me in ways I didn't expect.

One area I wrestled with this week was social media.

Everywhere you look, there seems to be another trend to follow, another algorithm to master, another expectation to meet.

For a moment, I found myself wondering if I had to become someone different in order to succeed.

Do I need to follow every trend?

Do I need to constantly chase attention?

Do I need to build a version of myself that people want to see?

As I prayed through those questions, God answered them in a way I wasn't expecting.

This weekend our church welcomed Dr. Corne Bekker, Dean of the School of Divinity at Regent University. He taught on the theology of the shape of the Bible and later that evening shared more deeply about what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus.

His teaching reminded me of something I've always known but needed to hear again:

Before I'm a business owner...

Before I'm a Realtor...

Before I'm an author...

Before I'm anything else...

I am first a daughter of God.

That changes everything.

The world tells us to build a brand.

Jesus tells us to become disciples.

The world tells us to create an image.

Jesus transforms our identity.

The world encourages comparison.

Jesus calls us to faithfulness.

I realized I don't need social media to tell me who I am.

I don't need likes, followers, or trends to validate the gifts God has placed inside of me.

Those things can certainly be useful tools, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to connect with others online. But they were never meant to become the foundation of my identity.

Only Christ can do that.

This new season of real estate has become another opportunity for me to trust God.

Not just with clients or contracts, but with my heart.

Can I build a business without losing sight of my calling?

Can I use social media without allowing it to define my worth?

Can I stay authentic instead of chasing what everyone else is doing?

I believe the answer is yes.

Because when our identity is rooted in Christ, we no longer have to perform for the approval of people.

We are free to serve.

Free to create.

Free to encourage.

Free to walk confidently in the gifts God has entrusted to us.

As I left church this weekend, I felt an incredible sense of peace.

God wasn't asking me to become someone else.

He was simply asking me to be faithful to who He created me to be.

That's the kind of business I want to build.

One that reflects Him.

One that serves others with integrity.

One that reminds people that success isn't measured by influence alone, but by faithfulness.

Friend, maybe you've been asking yourself similar questions.

Maybe you've wondered if you're enough.

Maybe you've compared your journey to someone else's.

Maybe you've felt pressure to fit into a mold that God never designed for you.

If so, let this be your reminder today:

You don't have to become someone different to fulfill God's calling.

You simply have to become more like Christ.

And that is more than enough.
