Mary, Martha, and the Christian Entrepreneur 🤍

Mary, Martha, and the Christian Entrepreneur 🤍

This week I found myself sitting outside in the sunshine, listening to the sounds of nature and reflecting on the journey God has me on.

Starting Honestly Modest has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, but if I'm being honest, it has also stretched my faith in ways I never expected.

There are days when I wonder if people truly understand the vision God placed on my heart.

There are days when I question whether anyone really cares about what I'm building.

There are days when comparison tries to creep in and convince me that I should be doing more, growing faster, or looking more like everyone else.

And then there are days when I simply want to go back to what feels comfortable and safe.

Yet every time I begin looking backward, I feel the Holy Spirit gently reminding me that He did not call me backward.

He called me forward.

Not because the path is easy.

Not because I have all the answers.

But because obedience matters.

As I've been reflecting lately, I keep thinking about Mary and Martha.

Most of us know the story.

Martha was busy serving, preparing, and making sure everything was done. Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen.

For years I thought I needed to choose one or the other.

Either be productive or be present.

Either build or be still.

Either work or worship.

But I'm beginning to realize that following Jesus often requires both.

There is a time to sit at His feet.

A time to listen.

A time to wait.

A time to receive direction.

A time to simply be in His presence.

And there is also a time to get up and faithfully steward what He has entrusted to us.

The challenge is not becoming so busy being Martha that we forget to be Mary.

Lately I have felt God reminding me not to rush.

Not to force the next thing.

Not to chase growth for the sake of growth.

Not to expand before He says it's time.

Instead, He is teaching me to let things simmer.

To let ideas marinate.

To trust His timing more than my own plans.

When I look at nature, I am reminded that God created everything in seasons.

Flowers bloom in their season.

Trees bear fruit in their season.

Harvest comes in its season.

Nothing grows overnight.

Perhaps what feels like waiting is actually preparation.

Perhaps God is doing deeper work beneath the surface than we can see.

As Christian entrepreneurs, mothers, wives, and women of faith, we often feel pressure to do more.

But maybe the greater invitation is to trust more.

To sit at His feet before we run ahead.

To allow Him to shape our hearts before He expands our influence.

To remember that success is not the goal.

Faithfulness is.

For now, I am learning to be both Mary and Martha.

To sit with Jesus.

To trust His timing.

And when He says move, to move with confidence.

Because what God starts, He is faithful to complete.

And what He plants in season will bloom exactly when it is meant to.

With love,

Sara 🤍
